1、梵文 Buddha音译“佛陀”的简称 。意译为“觉者”、“知者”、“觉”。觉有三义:自觉、觉他(使众生觉悟)、觉行圆满,是佛教修行的最高果位。据称,凡夫缺此三项,声闻、缘觉缺后二项,菩萨缺最后一项,只有佛才三项俱全。小乘讲的“佛”,一般是用作对释迦牟尼的尊称。大乘除指释迦牟尼外, 还泛指一切觉行圆满者。宣称三世十方,到处有佛。
