1、会意兼形声。同本义。
叔,拾也。---《说文》。汝南名收芋为叔。
九月叔苴,采荼薪樗。---《诗·豳风·七月》
2、假借为“少”。年幼的。
叔者,少也。---《白虎通·姓名》
父之兄弟后生为叔父,父之弟妻为叔母。又夫之弟为叔。---《尔雅》
伯某甫,仲叔季,唯其所当。---《仪礼·士冠礼》
3、古时兄弟长幼顺序常用“伯、仲、叔、季”或“孟、仲、叔、季”表示,叔表示排第三的。
